The Tymes

Ms Grace

At No.39, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, are The Tymes with Ms Grace.

The smooth Philly sound…

…returns at this position, in what becomes a hit for these elder statesmen of their craft, as The Tymes have been around by this time, for almost twenty years.

Back then, in 1956, they were known as The Latineers, before bringing George Williams on board as a new lead vocalist in 1960, and changing their name to what we now know and love.

At this point, the group are having quite a resurgence, with this, their fourth single to chart in the UK since 1963 with “So Much In Love“, then in 1969 with “People“; and this current single, hot on the heels of their previous hit from just a few months ago “You Little Trustmaker” – all of them reaching the Top 10.

The single…

…had entered the chart at No.33 on the 15th of December last year in 1974, and had held on to that position while the rest of the chart fought it out for the Christmas No.1, before shifting a gear up as time crossed over to 1975.

From moving up to No.27, it then shot up twenty places to break into the Top 10 at No.7, then climbed into the Top 5 the following week, before going all the way and hitting No.1 on the 19th of January.

Slipping from the top to No.2 for the final week of that month, it begins this month of February at No.4 before dropping heavily; first to No.28, then settling at this position this week.

From here…

…it manages to hang in the chart for one further week, dropping to No.49, before it leaves altogether, having acquired 11 weeks, after the first day of March.
