At No.38, on “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is Gary Lewis & The Playboys with My Heart’s Symphony.
An immensely successful band…
…in their native USA, but never really heard of over here in the UK, until now.
A solid sixties sound which, in America, had given them an impressive seven consecutive Top 10 hits in that decade, it’s not until now that this band (fronted by the son of legendary comedian Jerry Lewis) have been picked up across the pond, mainly by those who ride the wave of the Northern Soul movement, where they finally get a look-in on the UK charts, five whole years since the band had officially ceased to exist in that line-up.
The single…
…had quietly entered the Top 50 at No.50 on the second day of this month of February, climbed five places last week to sit at No.45, and has now risen another seven places to this position.
From here…
…it climbs higher still, reaching No.36 next week, before it falters back to No.39 and sits there for a fortnight. After which, it slips one further place to No.40, before leaving the chart altogether after the 22nd of March, with 7 weeks totalled up and taken away back home.
