The Moody Blues

This Is The Moody Blues

At No.45, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is The Moody Blues with This Is The Moody Blues.

An achingly exquisite…

…retrospective adorns the chart rundown the week I turn 3, which perfectly showcases how a band can go from teetering on the very edge of obscurity to, not only conquering the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, but also the hearts of a generation who carry the torch for them, and pass them along to new generations, even today.

The band has already crossed my path along my musical road already, during the week of my first birthday, in the albums, and also the singles, chart. That had been during the moment of their last official studio album release, before they took a well-earned rest away from each other to recharge and enrich themselves in other projects individually. But they took enough interest in this idea to give, not only their already dedicated supporters, but also any new wanderers curious and willing to explore a little deeper into the chronicles of a sound they hadn’t really immersed into before. Even today, if someone ever has the opportunity to dive into this band’s regaled history of their most classic period, this album is the perfect door to walk through.

As most are aware,..

…most compilations are usually a good money spinner for those times when any artist is on a hiatus for one reason or another, and the humble customer will get a set of ten or twenty tracks or so, to listen to one after the other instead of precariously trying to balance all the singles on top of one another on one of those long spindles on the record player. However, this isn’t one of those albums.

This has been carefully and meticulously curated to create an event on your turntable (or on one of those new fangled cassette players that you may own), that is set over four parts. Letting the listener completely immerse themselves into the sound of the Moodies in all their sophisticated stereophonic sonic glory.

This isn’t just a casual listen,..

…this is an experience, from a group which should undoubtedly never be left to fade back into an insignificance which they fought back from so effectively. That is what their passionately enthusiastic and devoted followers ensure. There may have been other artists which have attempted to divert and refract the colour from such epic music as this, but those faithful, who know only too well, will guide you to an album such as this, so that you can discover, be spellbound, and to perceive for yourself, what is real, and what is an illusion.

The album…

…had crashed into the charts, and immediately went Top 20, on the 10th of November last year in 1974, and immediately sat there for a fortnight before rising up to No.15 during the last week of that month.

Shifting back to the No.20 position at the beginning of December, it then rose to a place higher at No.14 on the 8th of that month, its highest position, before getting comfortable in the mid-chart positions for the rest of the year.

By the beginning of this new year of 1975, it begins to slip further down; and this is where I find it in February during my 3rd birthday week.

From here…

…it sticks around this lower end of the chart for a further week, before it completes the winter season and disappears after the 1st of March.

However, it does return once again on the very last day of that month, to see in April before dipping back out again, and then returning for one more week during the middle of that month, to bring the total amount of weeks up to 18, and then exiting after the19th.
