Mud
The Secrets That You Keep

At No.5, on “The Top 50 UK Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is Mud with The Secrets That You Keep.
The mirthful boys of Mud…
…are back after having a stunner of a year in 1974, culminating with the double whammy of, not only having the biggest selling single of the year with Tiger Feet, but also grabbing the coveted Christmas No.1 with Lonely This Christmas. Now they’re going out to fire their little arrows into the Valentine’s Day lovebirds across the nation with this understated and affectionate Elvis-type parody once again, cheeky little cherubs that they are.
With their tongues firmly in their cheeks, and some entertaining performances of the song being televised to the nation on Top of the Pops, looking even more shiny in satin, and with bigger collars than the King himself, the band are at the very pinnacle of their game; and rightly so.
The single…
…released just in time for the Valentine’s onrush, leapt straight into the chart at No.26 last week, before shooting skywards another twenty-one places to land here this week.
From here…
…it grabs another position to end this winter month, and then claims another to begin the spring with a Top 3 placing.
Dropping back to this No.5 position the following week, it then begins to fall away, shedding places like petals from a flower, until it eventually gets spurned out of the chart after the much warmer 12th of April, free to roam away into the fields with the bonking bunnies; and taking with it a sizeable 9-week stash of large carrots.
