At No.15, on “The Top 50 UK Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is Love Unlimited with It May Be Winter Outside (But In My Heart It’s Spring).
Barry’s orchestra…
…makes a welcome return to the UK charts again this year, following his instrumental hit last year; and now we have the full package with Love Unlimited themselves gracing this song which, if you think it has a bit of a sixties feel to it, you’d be bang on the money as, in its original form, it’s now around eight years old.
Back in 1967, and over in the USA, this tune had been a modest hit for Felice Taylor after she had teamed up with Barry and his writing partner at that time Paul Politi. Now, with some sizeable hits under his belt, Barry has decided to dust this one off, polish it up with some seventies energy and has gifted it to his backing singers who, in keeping it in the family, consist of his wife Glodean, her sister Linda, and their cousin Diane.
Although this version isn’t doing as well over in the States as its original, it’s getting a better welcome over here in the UK.
The single…
…had entered the UK chart in the depths of winter, on the 19th of January, at No.43, and immediately started warming up by rising fifteen places to reach No.28.
Climbing another four positions to No.24 at the beginning of this month of February, it carries on scaling up where it broke the Top 20 last week before burning up another five places to get to this placement.
From here…
…it carries on hotting up, and eventually reaches its peak of No.11 to close out this last winter month.
Entering March, it drops back to No.14 and then really begins to melt away as spring starts thawing its way into the world, finally leaving after the 22nd of that month with 9 warm weeks to take with it into those later sunsets.
