Showaddywaddy

Sweet Music

At No.44, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, are Showaddywaddy with Sweet Music.

The talented teddy-boy suited,…

colourful and entertaining octet from Leicester, occupy this placing this week with their fourth successive UK chart hit.

The group,..

…a coming together of two established bands, namely Choise, fronted by Dave Bartram, and The (Golden) Hammers, fronted by Buddy Gask, both of whom had been immensely popular around the clubs, and who had made the inspired decision to double up, quite literally, thereby taking their combined abilities to a whole new level.

With their popular appearances…

…on ITV‘s New Faces, giving them an even bigger boost nationally, by last spring of 1974, their presence started to be solidified, not only in the UK Charts, but into the British hearts at a relentless level; and even though they hadn’t quite registered on my 3-year-old radar just yet, it wouldn’t be much longer before they did.

The single…

…is a New Entry this week, coming only a few weeks after their previous festive single “Hey Mister Christmas” had left at the end of January.

From here,..

…the single will break next week into the Top 30, and by the first week of the spring month of March, be into the Top 20, hitting a peak position of No.14 by the 16th.

It will stay in Top 20 territory until the season advances into April, then it sinks lower, eventually leaving the chart after the much warmer 19th of that month, with an accomplished 9 weeks to show for it.
