Trammps

Sixty Minute Man

At No.48, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, are the Trammps with Sixty Minute Man.

A soul-soaked…

…re-interpretation of the doo-wop classic by The Dominoes, given a further fifteen minutes of kissin’, fifteen minutes of teasin’, fifteen minutes of pleasin’, and fifteen minutes of blowin’ their top, to bring this song (which itself is already approaching a quarter of a century) bang up to date in this current style that’s ravaging the music world, the Philly Sound.

The original is also noted as being one of the first to use the term Rock ‘n’ Roll (although bass vocalist Bill Brown actually sings “I Rock ’em, Roll ’em all night long”, it’s close enough). Although, as every impressionable lady the record woo’s will discover, the stark reality of the running time of the single only manages around two and a half minutes.

This current rendition…

,,,by the Trammps was actually almost three years old by now, having first been released in the U.S. way back in 1972; the year of my birth.

This current re-release three years later is exclusively for us here in the UK, which has already fared better than it’s original placement in their native Billboard Chart, where back then, it had only managed to get to No.108.

It’s also worth noting…

…that the ‘B’ Side of this single, is in fact very familiar to most music, and especially R&B aficionados, as under the present title “Scrub Board”, it’s actually an instrumental-only work-in-progress which, once the lyrics are eventually recorded, and the current title literally scrubbed off the board, will be re-titled “Hold Back The Night”, giving them their biggest UK hit, reaching the Top 5 later on this year in early November.

The single…

…had entered the UK Chart last month at this very same position of No.48, on the 26th of January, and by the first week of this month of February, had climbed up to get into the Top 40, at No.40; the highest it would get before beginning to slip gradually, stepping back to No.41 last week, before returning to this position this week of my 3rd birthday.

From here,..

…it will fall out of the chart completely after the 22nd of the month, with four weeks in the bag; but, like I’ve mentioned, and what the B-side promises, bigger success is destined to come their way.
