Tom Jones

Tom Jones’ Greatest Hits

At No.26, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart”, the week of my 2nd Birthday, is Tom Jones with Tom Jones’ Greatest Hits.

The voice…

…which is Tom Jones makes an appearance this week in the albums chart. Twelve absolute belters from a career which already has spanned almost ten years as a solo singer and where he’s also become a host of his own TV show.

The guy is almost guaranteed to make the fairer sex go weak at the knees, not just with his singing, but with the moves to match. He soaks them with so much testosterone that Vegas entertainer and good friend Englebert Humperdinck, during his recorded live performance at the Riviera, once jested that during one season, Tom’s private static caravan managed to get through six sets of tyres.

So here we have a selection…

…of some of the biggest and best hits spanning the first biggie and moving through the years with the latest offering being the hit “Till” which had charted back in 1971. Strangely, even though he’s had at least a couple of chart successes since then, they do not appear here. Still, that didn’t stop people rushing out to add this LP to their collections.

The album…

…had prowled its way into the chart after selling a few crates over Christmas, on the 30th of December 1973, when it hit No.22. From there it began pulling back slowly before a couple of thrusts took it higher up the charts to No.20 at the end of January, and then another big push saw it hit it’s biggest peak at No.15; not surprisingly, just in time for Valentine’s Day. This week sees it slide back again to this position of No.26.

From here,..

…the album pulls back even further for a couple of weeks before pulling out altogether after the 9th of March.

The LP then dips back in for a fortnight’s stay during the second half of May, then returns for one final quick fling during the first week in June.

Once it’s all added up, Tom’s collection amounts to a total of 13 delectable weeks in the chart.
