At No.22, on “The Top 50 UK Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is Sweet Sensation with Purely By Coincidence.
Rolling on the wave…
…of their big breakthrough hit “Sad Sweet Dreamer”, this new track carries on that magic formula, and now ups the tempo into an upbeat contender to anything similar coming over from across the pond.
As I’ve already covered previously, that first big hit of theirs had been one of my early childhood memorable tracks which had burrowed into my head; and when you first lay the needle down on this follow-up, it’s almost like this single is its identical twin, with that same sweeping string build-up. However, that’s when this single takes it up to the next level, giving it a far more joyful counter to its predecessor.
The single…
…had entered the UK chart back on the 12th of January at No.49, and by its second week had bounded up an impressive twenty-nine places to hit the Top 20.
Week three witnessed it scale further up to reach No.14, and then it began this month of February by climbing even further up to take up a new peak position of No.11.
Frustratingly, it doesn’t quite make it to the Top 10, as last week it fell back to No.18, before slipping further this week.
From here…
…it tumbles back quite a distance to land at the Top 40 perimeter and then, after seven swift weeks, falls out of the chart completely after the 1st of March.
