New World
Kara, Kara
At No.46, on the the U.K. Top 50 Singles Chart the day I am born, is New World with “Kara, Kara”.
Like the entry just below it at No.46,..
…“Kara Kara” had also entered the Chart on Sunday 28th November 1971, but at position No.49.
It slowly climbed during the run up to Christmas and through the festive period, finally settling in the Top 20 at No.17, just into the new year (Sunday 2nd to 8th of January 1972), before edging slowly back down again.
New World were a group who hailed from Brisbane, Australia,..
…and who had originally released a couple of singles in their home country as ‘The New World Trio’ a few years before, including their first single “Try To Remember”.
They were soon discovered…
…by songwriting team Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, who brought them over to Europe, where they signed a recording contract with Mickie Most’s new ‘RAK’ label.
Their first single would be the song “Rose Garden”, charting a year before I came along, and getting to No.15.
The song had been a big hit the year before that, in 1970 for Lyn Anderson.
Their next release…
….during the summer of 1971 would be their biggest hit to date, getting into the Top 10 with the song “Tom Tom Turnaround”. Their first recording written and produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman.
This newest single,..
…also written and produced by the Chinn and Chapman partnership, was to spend its final week in the U.K. Chart from this day.
It’s also the single which has their version of “Lord of the Dance” on the “B” Side, which I mentioned in an earlier post.
New World themselves…
…would become quite familiar to TV audiences in the U.K., when they guest starred on such popular entertainment shows with the likes of ‘The Two Ronnies’ and ‘Morecambe and Wise’.
And as for the production outfit behind them, the collective of those two producer/songwriters, along with Mickie’s record label, would become quite a formidable team for some upcoming musical artists in the next few years as I shall witness.
