With all this information from the charts, and the music of each moment I can remember, I’ve tried to make the accompanying musical selections as accurate as I possibly can.
Therefore I’ve researched using a few key and invaluable websites.
The first is the Official U.K. Chart which even though can be frustrating to navigate and get the facts straight, has been the lynchpin for this whole project coming together in the first place.
After researching accurately (or so I thought) the first run of this project, I had recently discovered that for each of my years, the corresponding chart for that time had been a week early.
In some cases it didn’t make a difference; however some of the No.1’s weren’t the actual No.1’s of that specific week.
This has now been corrected for this second run of my project.
The second invaluable website has been Discogs. A treasure trove of information which helped me immensely when having to cross reference certain singles and albums. It also helped with trying to find the correct versions of the more trickier examples by matching runtimes with the output for my third preferred website.
For this, my preference was to use YouTube, especially for the singles and YouTube Music for the albums. Both sites interact with each other under the YouTube umbrella, both will have the playlists and content and are interchangeable.
I used this platform as this is more universally accessible for others to just dip into, and (most importantly) where I had the most success finding the content I needed.
As mentioned above, I’ve also linked each song or piece of music with the correct version that has been released on YouTube. And for those that have distributed this otherwise hard to find material I’m eternally grateful and will mention all of you as your channels appear throughout my journey.
Some pieces however are just not available at present and so I have to unfortunately mark them as such until I hope to personally fix this problem by seeking out the missing music myself and posting the results on my own YouTube channel.
There are some selections which may not be the accurate example, for instance a B-side may instead be a live version and I’ve used a studio version mistakenly. I’m hoping that this hasn’t happened and none slipped through the net. However, if this is the case then I humbly apologise but I’ve tried to get as many of them right as possible by just using my best guess and I’m hoping (until I acquire the actual single or album in question) that I’m correct in my assumption the majority of the time.
For now, I hope you get as much enjoyment reminiscing or discovering these tunes as much as I did researching them all.
Here is my personal Musical Road,
