Faces

At No.5, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is the Faces with “Cindy Incidentally”.

The same old Faces were back (but only just)…

…after showing up in the chart on the day I was born the year before.

Back then, they were on their way out after reaching the Top 10 with the single “Stay With Me” (from their album “A Nod’s As Good As A Wink…”) which had got to No.6 at the end of January 1972 (the album itself had managed to scale up to No.2).

Now they had returned with their follow-up which was reaching even higher peaks, although that wasn’t enough to allay tensions in the band due in part to Rod’s ever growing solo success.

The single had been been a new entry the previous week…

…when it landed straight into the Top 20 at No.17.

After leaping into the Top 10 this week, it will stall at this same position of No.5 next week but then scale another three places the week after to achieve it’s highest position of No.2 on the 4th of March.

As March progresses, so the Faces slip back through the Top 10.

By the end of March, they will fall out of the top bracket and sit at No.18. By the beginning of April, they will fall just outside of the Top 30.

There’ll be one more week where it will hang just within the Top 50, but after the 14th of April, they’ll bid goodbye and, for the group, by the end of the year, so will one of the two Ronnies.
