Michael Jackson
Ben
At No.49, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Michael Jackson with “Ben”.
Just like the previous post at No.50,..
…the single at No.49 was also enjoying it’s last week in the Top 50 on this week in February.
14 year old Michael Jackson…
who, exactly a year before, was riding high in the Top 10 with his single “Got To Be There”, had entered in the middle of the U.K. Chart with “Ben” back on the 19th of November 1972 at No.25.
After breaking the Top 20 the following week, he would score his top position of No.7 when he broke into the Top 10 in week 3.
Michael would spend a further 3 weeks in the Top 10…
…all at the No.8 position, before beginning to fall gradually away back down the chart.
With this being his final week in 1973, he accomplishes a total of 14 consecutive weeks on chart.
There will be one further visit for Michael with this single.
In 2009, “Ben” will once again make a brief posthumous appearance in the (now) Top 100 U.K. Single Chart.
On the 27th of June the single will enter at No.58 and climb a week later to No.46.
It will finally fall to No.69 for the final week before leaving after the 18th of July.
