Glen Campbell
Glen Campbell’s Greatest Hits
At No.44, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Glen Campbell with “Glen Campbell’s Greatest Hits”.
Hot off from finishing the weekly “Goodtime Hour” entertainment TV shows…
…which aired in the U.S. since the late 1960’s. The opportunity was taken to release a retrospective of Glen’s most successful hits thus far. The effect of which carried over the Atlantic to the U.K. airwaves and charts.
This album would have featured in my rundown of the U.K Album Chart from the day I was born, as it had originally entered the chart, at No.38, on the 21st of November 1971, four months before my entrance into the world. It would slowly climb up the charts towards my big day, getting up as high as a week at No.15 from the 23rd of January in the new year of 1972, before edging back down the chart.
However, as fate would have it, the album would drop out of the U.K. Chart the day before I arrived. Just for that week.
By the 27th of February, he was back in again at No.19, to stay for another 4 weeks, leaving after the 25th of March.
By April the 2nd, he was back again, entering this time at No.27, getting as high as No.16, before he was off again after another 4 weeks, at the end of the month.
The 7th of May would see him back yet again, this time at No.37, climbing up higher to No.14 two weeks later near the end of that month, and eventually sticking around a few more weeks to make this stretch 8 weeks in a row, leaving after the 1st of July.
With Summer of 1972 now fully underway, Glen would tone down his appearances to just solitary weeks on chart, the first of these being from the 6th of August, when it just about sneaks back in at No.49.
No.33 would be where he lands for another weeks stay, on the 10th of September. He’d then be back again, for two weeks this time, near then end of that month on the 24th, when the album goes to, first No.46, then back to the edge at No.50 before taking the rest of the year off.
1973 greets him on the 21st of January when the week long visits begin again. This time he’s in at No.48, and then it’s this time I catch him for this week of my first birthday, here at No.44.
This won’t be the last I will see of this album. Our paths will cross again. I’ll keep Glen on the line and we’ll catch up with this album’s continuing story further along my road.
I’ve created my own separate playlists, for Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Many thanks goes to the Glen Campbell YouTube channel, for providing the chance to hear the tracks so that together we can experience both sides of this album release, as it was intended, once again.
