Nice One Cyril
At No.43, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is the Cockerel Chorus with “Nice One Cyril”.
This week in the Chart witnesses another football anthem…
…just starting on its U.K. Chart run.
Last year, at this time, it was Chelsea who were kicking around the chart, this time it’s Tottenham Hotspur’s turn.
The single “Nice One Cyril”, Cyril being the left back for the team, is entering the chart this week and will begin it’s climb up the charts while the team themselves battle it out through the Football League.
The song itself…
…was originally used for a TV advert for a loaf of bread, where the baker, called Cyril obviously get’s congratulated for his batches of the said loaves.
Spurs fans then picked this up (the tune, not the loaves) and started singing it at their football matches for team member Cyril Knowles.
It was released as a single by the Cockerel Chorus, the Cockerel being the team emblem and here it lands into the U.K. Chart.
In the next few weeks…
…the single, just like the team itself will progress up the chart before achieving the highest position of No.14 on the 18th of March, just after the team win the football league against Norwich.
Bolstered by their win, the single will stick around for another couple of months before finally departing after the 12th of May and thus completing a respectable 12 weeks on chart.
