At No.40, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is Santana with “Santana”.
Santana’s third album…
…(known in some other countries as “Santana III”) was no stranger to the UK album chart by February 1972.
The album had originally entered the U,K Chart way back in early April 1971 for a week at No.47.
It appeared again for another week in late May, this time charting 21 places higher, at No.26.
It was third time lucky when, for it’s next visit to the chart, it entered back in at a very respectable No.15 in early November, but then leapt straight into the Top Ten a week after that, to claim it’s highest place at No.6 for a week before slipping slightly to No.9.
In those weeks, as Autumn turned to Winter, it would hold chart positions for 6 weeks straight before saying goodbye to 1971 in the week before Christmas.
It would appear again, at the very beginning of the new year of 1972, for another 3 weeks in January before reappearing again for another 3 week visit as February turned into March, which is where we find it here.
In fact, both those last 3 week stints would find it hovering around the Top 40.
After this there will be only another couple of weeks of separate chart action left. One of these will be a week at No.50 in mid April 1972, the other not long after, at the beginning of May.
All in all, the album will complete more than a year (albeit very sporadic) of U.K. Chart activity.
