Jimi Hendrix
Johnny B. Goode

At No.35, on the the U.K. Top 50 Singles Chart the day I am born, is Jimi Hendrix with “Johnny B. Goode”.
The fans were still celebrating Jimi’s music…
…even though the man himself wasn’t around to celebrate with them.
It had only been less than 18 months since his passing, but his presence still showed in the UK Singles Chart with 2 cuts from a newly released Live album.
Chuck Berry’s semi autobiographical composition…
…(Berry was born at 2520 Goode Avenue, St Louis, Missouri, and he’s confirmed that the words are loosely based on his climb to Rock ‘n’ Roll stardom), which had solidified it’s indelible stamp on the popular music world since it had been originally released back in 1955 (in a smart move to make sure he got airplay, he swapped the character’s description from his own ‘coloured boy’ to a ‘country boy’). With countless groups and artists since then, putting it into their live sets, or recording their own versions of this already considered classic tune.
This live recording from Jimi…
…had been recorded at the first show at Berkeley Community Theatre, California, on the 30th of May 1970, nearly 2 years ago.
It was also the opening track on the U.K. version of the ‘Hendrix in the West’ album from which had just been released (in other territories, the sides were flipped, which meant this song opened Side 2).
During the week I was born, Jimi is sat at the highest position his version would achieve during it’s small 5 week run in the Charts.
The single had come into the Top 50 at No.50 on the 6th of February and will rock out after the 11th of March.
The “A” Side

The “B” Side

Jimi Hendrix – Johnny B. Goode (Video Promo)
Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing (Live Performance)
This was one of those instances when I wasn’t sure which version of “Little Wing” I should use.
I’m pretty sure I chose the correct one after having initially opted for a different version and listening a number of times to the variants so, for anyone who owns this single, I hope I have made the right choice.
