Non Stop Dancing 13
At No.32, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is James Last with “Non Stop Dancing 13”.
When I was growing up in my own little world…
…I couldn’t think who would have bought and played these albums. In my head it would be the sort of LP Margot and Jerry would put on for their suburban dinner guests (certainly not for Tom and Barbara) in the British TV sitcom “The Good Life”.
Saying that, one of my Aunties had a couple of his albums and in no-way was she that sort of person.
Also on the front, it has the words “Easy Listening” – ‘you’re not kidding’ I thought..
I got the feeling, while growing up, that James Last was taken as seriously music-wise in the 1970’s as Skoda were for their cars back then.
Still, James must have been doing something right. He seemed to be a staple of the album charts in the 70’s. I remember seeing many of his albums in the record shops and he must have been doing well for himself in this niche as this (as the title suggests) is the 13th in a an ongoing series of these albums alone, not including all his other LP’s which he seemed to be churning out like a conveyer belt in a cheese factory.
The impression I got was that they were an affordable way of hearing some of the latest tunes re-hashed into a big collection.
It was much later when I found out that Mr. Last was not only a hugely successful bandleader, but was also an accomplished arranger and a successful composer as well.
Coincidentally, one of his own compositions was featured on the previous chart placing.
“Happy Heart” written by James (whose real name was actually Hans) gave Andy Williams a massive hit.
Another of his songs, “Fool”, was recorded by Elvis Presley.
Going back to the LP in question, “Non Stop Dancing 13” (In some territories it was renamed “Non Stop Dancing 1972”), was in the last stage of his first of 2 visits to the chart for this particular album. I say last stage, it was only there for a couple of weeks and this was the 2nd of those.
The next time it will make an appearance would be at No.42 for a weeks stay and that will be at the end of April. By then, he’ll have probably released another couple of albums.
Unfortunately I have been unable to create a playlist for each original separate side of the LP.
I have instead managed to locate the complete soundtrack as a whole which I have litkomax to thank for.
