Jonathan King
Flirt!
At No.30, on the the U.K. Top 50 Singles Chart the day I am born, is Jonathan King with “Flirt!”.
Breaching the UK Top 30…
…and, just like the chart rundown at this stage, Jonathan’s “Flirt” was approaching it’s halfway point.
It had edged into the U.K. Chart at No.49 at the very end of January 1972, and entered the Top 40 at No.37 the week after.
Jonathon, who by this point after leaving school, had scored a few big hits as himself,..
…recorded many more…
…under various pseudonyms,..
…presented on ATV and Radio 1,..
…and named, recorded and produced the just-out-of-school-group Genesis, with Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Philips, Mike Rutherford and Chris Stewart. All of them around the age of 17 at the time, and fresh out of the very posh Charterhouse school, in the very leafy depths of Godalming, Surrey in England.
Jonathon’s latest single…
…was his 27th (and his 13th without hiding behind another name).
After this week’s showing, it will be another couple of weeks before the first Old Carthusian public schoolboy pop star tops out at No.22 for a week at the start of March, before dropping away again, and leaving the chart altogether at the beginning of April.
