David Bowie
The Jean Genie
At No.28, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is David Bowie with “The Jean Genie”.
David, (you may have heard of him)…
…was spending his final week in the Top 30 with this single when we catch him here.
The artist, still using his Ziggy persona at this point, didn’t make one single appearance exactly a year before, in either the singles or albums U.K. Chart, but this is the first of many appearances for my 2nd year.
“The Jean Genie” (released in the U.K with a different B Side than in the U.S.) had first materialised in the chart on the 3rd of December 1972 at No.33.
From there, it would take 2 weeks to get into the Top 20 and a further 2 weeks to reach the Top 10 when it hit No.4 on New Years Eve.
The following week,..
…it got to it’s highest position of No.2, only being denied the top spot by the power house god-like wild child Little Jimmy Osmond with the behemoth ukulele stomper “Long Haired Lover From Liverpool” (Sometimes life just doesn’t make sense).
Brushing over this criminal activity, this Genie would spend a further 3 weeks in the Top 10 before letting itself go further down the chart.
Next weeks entry, at No.39, will be it’s last before leaving for good after the 3rd of March.
