Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II
At No.28, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is Led Zeppelin with “Led Zeppelin II”.
Here is a young British group…
…by the name of Led Zeppelin (you may have heard of them) with their imaginatively titled second LP “Led Zeppelin II”.
We meet Led Zeppelin’s 2nd album in it’s 7th visit to the UK Album Chart since it first entered straight in at No.4 way back on the 6th of November 1969.
For about a year and 3 months since that day in 1969, it had been a constant presence in the chart where it had frequented the Top 10 for 51 out of the initial 69 weeks of that first run.
Astonishongly, for only one of those weeks it had achieved the No.1 position, and that was in the first week of February 1970.
It would drop out of the chart about a year after that, at the end of February 1971, but would be back a month later to stay for one week short of 6 more months, leaving the week after the 11th September 1971.
After only a week off, It would begin another 6 week run, commencing from the 19th of September and this would see it through to the end of October. After that, the next 3 visits would last for a solitary week each. One in November, and another separate two in January of the new year of 1972.
We find it this week at the beginning of a 4 week stretch which will see it through to mid-March. After this it will chart a further 7 times during 1972. A further week at the end of March, 2 weeks in April, another week in May, 2 weeks at the beginning of June, another 3 weeks starting at the end of June and going into July, a further week at the end of July and one more week in November.
There will be a couple more week long appearances the following year in 1973. The first near the beginning of October, the other near the end of that same month.
The next re-entries won’t appear until 1975. all during the summer months, 2 weeks in June, 2 more in July and the last heading into August.
And that looks like that will be it. Well it was, during the band’s lifetime.
Just over 39 years after it last appears on the chart, on the 8th of June 2014, to coincide with their back catalogue re-mastered series, “Led Zeppelin II” makes it back into the charts, entering at No.12.
It will stay for another 3 weeks before it departs after the 5th of July.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this LP with the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.
