America

At No.23, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is America with “America”.

With the success of their hit single…

…“A Horse With No Name” climbing steadily up the singles chart, so we find America’s eponymous debut album moving in tandem up the U.K. Album Chart.

America’s self titled album had entered the chart on the 16th of January 1972 at No.30 and a week after would break the Top 20.

The week before this one would see it hit it’s highest position of No.13. This initial 9 week streak will end after the 18th of March.

They’ll be back a week later for 2 weeks to see in the month of April before taking leave for another couple of weeks and then coming back for 2 more to witness the transition of April into May.

Around this time, with the single “A Horse With No Name” performing strongly in the charts, the decision was made by the record company to re-release the album with the hit single included on Side 1 (between “Children” and “Here”).

This may have happened in many other territories, however I have not found evidence that this happened to the U.K. version of the album at this time.

I’ve therefore created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this LP with the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Side 1

America - America (Side 1 Label)
America – America (Side 1)

Side 2

America - America (Side 2 Label)
America – America (Side 2)
