Prelude
After The Goldrush

At No.23, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 2nd Birthday, are Prelude with After The Goldrush.
This unique and inspired interpretation…
…of Neil Young‘s 1970 composition was mid-way through its chart journey on the week of my 2nd birthday.
This trio, formerly known as “The Carnival”, who consisted of Ian Vardy, and also the married couple of Mr & Mrs Brian and Irene Hume, had begun writing their own songs together south of the River Tyne in Gateshead, England, about the same time as Neil Young had originally released his own song himself.
The track,..
…which ran through a timeline of the U.S. state of California, with each of its verses (past, present and future), depicting a time of what has, what is, and what could be.
As Prelude,..
…all the members provided a vocal harmony. On other tracks, such as the B-Side of this single, both Brian and Ian contributed guitar.
Brian looked at the group as more album oriented, focusing on listeners perceptions who would prefer a more immersive and deeper, longer listening experience. However, they decided to put this song (which they’d spontaneously began singing one day at a local bus stop near their hometown, close to the village of of Stocksfield) on their debut album which they had been carefully crafting in Wales the previous year.
They really weren’t expecting much from the single, and were happily surprised by the attention it gave them.
The single…
…had entered into the UK Chart, and into the Top 40, back on the 20th of January at No.39, and during the next couple of weeks, managed to climb into the Top 30, and it’s now comfortably sitting in the mid-chart area.
From here,
…the single will drop back slightly to No.27; however, the following week will see it scale back up, pass this position on the way, and end up peaking at No.21 during the first week of March.
As the days become a little lighter, the single will begin its descent back down the chart, until taking its leave after the 23rd of that month.
