Alice Cooper
Teenage Lament ’74

At No.22, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 2nd Birthday, are Alice Cooper with Teenage Lament ’74.
The second time this band…
…have now appeared in a chart around my birthday, and so far it may be the last.
Having recently released…
…their latest album “Muscle Of Love“, which is where this single is pulled from, that LP has struggled to reach the same sort of sales as its predecessor, contributing to the dissipating morale of the group who are by this point, on the verge of a collective burnout and break-up.
It hasn’t helped that, included on the album, is a potential theme for the new upcoming James Bond film which, if they’d submitted the track 24 hours earlier than they will end up doing, they’d at least have been in the running to follow Paul McCartney & Wings’ effort from the previous year, and fate could be taking a different path. However, due to the delay of just one day, the producers of the film will instead go with a song sung by Lulu.
Back to this present single,..
…which entered into the UK Chart on the 13th of January at No.38 and ascended into the Top 30 in its second week, the Top 20 in its third, and kept on going up until last week, when it peaked at No.12 before slipping back to this week’s position.
From here,..
…the single will drop next week, to the edge of the Top 30 before it drops out of the chart after the 2nd of March; and not long after, the group will fall away themselves, leaving just one man to carry the name forward.
