Donny Osmond

Too Young

Donny Osmond 1972

At No.19, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart”, the week of my 1st Birthday, is Donny Osmond with Too Young.

Of all the famous Osmond brothers,..

…it was undoubtably Donny who I remember the most.

Obviously, having a pre-teen older sister, and a Donny obsessed close cousin at this time of my life, bolstered that fact.

Even though he wasn’t my sister’s favourite ‘Osmond’ (that prize went to his older brother Merrill – sorry Donny), Donny was still plastered around her bedroom. He was on magazine’s like ‘Jackie’, which my sister used to get, on the TV screen, on the radio.

I personally preferred him when he was performing with his brothers, and I think my sister did too. But, U.K. wide, the consensus was that Donny was the heart throb, whether I liked it, my sister liked it, or even he liked it or not. Just listen to the audience reaction on the Osmonds Live album further down this chart, to attest to this whenever he’s mentioned, or talks, or sings, to hear the proof of this fact.

This year would mark the 10th anniversary…

…since he’d walked into the spotlight on the Andy Williams Show when aged only 5 years.

Since then,..

…he’d grown up performing with his brothers, who, before he had joined them were aptly named the Osmond Brothers. They didn’t become ‘The Osmonds’ until Donny joined them.

Then, two years ago, he’d gone solo, and the Osmond juggernaught went into overdrive.

This was Donny’s latest album,..

…his 4th overall, but only his 2nd to hit the U.K. Album Chart.

It had entered just in time for Christmas 1972, on the 10th of December at No.13; a day after his 15th birthday.

From there it would leap into the Top 10 and sit at No.7, it’s best position, and hold it for three weeks, until this new year of 1973.

It would slip a few places during January, before climbing back to the No.7 peak, as the month of February turned up.

This week witnesses it’s biggest drop since charting, falling 12 places.

It would hang in the Top 20 for a few more weeks, before slipping further at the close of March.

Almost falling out altogether during April, it would recover a little, and settle comfortably in the Top 30 as the month turned to May. Eventually though, he’d drop out of the chart, amassing a grand total of 24 weeks, after the 26th of that month.
