Donny Osmond
Portrait Of Donny
At No.17, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Donny Osmond with “Portrait Of Donny”.
Two places higher…
…than his latest LP, Donny’s 3rd album release was enjoying greater success, mainly due to his biggest hit single, which coincidentally is the first track on this album.
“Puppy Love” a song previously written and released by Canadian singer Paul Anka about one of the first ever Disney Mouseketeers no less, which Paul had a serious crush on at the time, had also given Donny a British Top 3 hit over ten years later.
The album itself had entered the U.K. Chart at No.34 on the 17th of September the previous year and then shot up to No.16 for it’s 2nd week before yo-yo-ing between the 20’s and teens up till the end of October. After that, the album would settle down and slowly begin to climb up the Top 20 until, by the beginning of December 1972, it would break into the Top 10.
By the time the new year of 1973 dawned, so Donny would climb higher, eventually coming to rest at No.5 in mid January.
By the time of this chart a month later, he is still sitting comfortably in the Top 20, a place he won’t leave from until the beginning of April.
After, he’ll still stick around, long after his follow-up album has dropped away from the chart, and leave briefly after the 16th of June.
This album will be back for a week, to see out the end of this summer month. It will also pay a week long visit during early July too.
The final week will see him re-enter one last time with this album, at the very end of November, finishing off an impressive total of 42 weeks in the chart.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.
