At No.17, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is the Carpenters with “Carpenters”.
They’d only just begun…
…(see what I did there 😉 ) a new 6 week run in the UK Album Chart this week, which would see it through to the beginning of April.
The Carpenters eponymous third album, otherwise known as the Tan Album (due to the plain coloured envelope sleeve design, but only if you were in the Americas and Canada. The U.K. only had the standard Portrait sleeve available) had first charted on the 24th of October the previous year and had kept within the Top 50 for 14 weeks before going on a 2 week vacation, coming back for a week, and then leaving for another week.
After the current run will end, the album will then spend the occasional week, maybe two, back in the chart.
These visits will be a week in November 1972, a couple of weeks at the end of March 1973, another week at the end of April, one week early August, another week in early September and one more at the end of the same month. After that, it will stay in the chart, but only just, for a 7 week run from mid-November to the end of 1973.
There’ll be a couple more week long visits, probably due to a marketing push after the immensely popular first singles collection is released.
The first of these will be mid-March and the second and final chart entry at the beginning of April, both in 1974.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Many thanks goes to The Carpenter’s Official YouTube Channel, for providing the chance to hear the tracks to form the complete original LP, so that together we can experience both sides of this album release, as it was intended, once again.
Please show your support by visiting their channel.
