Olivia Newton-John
Take Me Home Country Roads
At No.15, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Olivia Newton-John with “Take Me Home Country Roads”.
Olivia was enjoying what would be her highest chart position…
…for this cover version of John Denver’s classic tune the week of my first birthday.
Denver’s original, two years before, had only been released in the U.S. and Canada. This meant the opportunity fell to Olivia, who got her version into the charts here in the U.K.
This version had entered into the U.K. Top 50 Chart, on the 7th of January, right on the edge at No.50 and the following week leapt 15 places to No.35.
From there though, the climb became much more gradual over the next couple of weeks, only climbing 2 places in week 3 and then 6 places the week after that.
By February,..
…she managed to climb into the Top 20 when the single landed at No.18. It didn’t move from that position the week after but the week after that, it gets to this No.15 position.
From here, Olivia will slip back slightly but still manage to stay in the Top 20 at No.17 next week, but will slowly slip back further down the chart.
Eventually she’ll be taking the road out of the chart after the 7th of April, accumulating a total of 13 weeks.
