Simon And Garfunkel
Bridge Over Troubled Water
At No.15, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Simon And Garfunkel with “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.
As I completed my first year,..
…so Simon and Garfunkel’s final album heads towards completing 3 solid years in the U.K. Chart.
Although some music critics at the time of it’s release thought the album as just OK, the public, not just here, but in the U.S. as well as other territories, thought otherwise.
The two guys had big albums before.
Bookends, had been celebrated by critics and the public alike, and of course there had also been The Graduate soundtrack as well.
But no one, not even the guys themselves, could have predicted this.
For the past three years, the album had barely broken out of the Top 20.
As it entered into 1973, and moved through the first couple of months, the British music buying public were still buying enough albums for it to sit comfortably here.
There would be signs though that the hold on the charts was starting to finally relax a little. The first of those, this year, will be next week, when it slips for a week to No.24 before bouncing back up again.
It will eventually start to spend more time in the Top 30 after the end of April, but it would still remain a strong constant presence, whether Top 30, Top 20, or even Top 10, all the way up to the very end of this year.
Next year will be the 2nd of my life, and this albums 4th, and we’ll catch up with it’s astonishing run again then.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Many thanks go to the Simon & Garfunkel Official YouTube Channel (@SimonAndGarfunkel) for providing the chance to hear the tracks so that together we can experience both sides of this album release, as it was intended, once again.
