Rockin’ Roll Baby
At No.12, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 2nd Birthday, are The Stylistics with Rockin’ Roll Baby.
The smooth sounds…
…of this Philly band were just coming into a transition phase in their career.
This single would be one of the last produced by Thom Bell, and even though they’d had plenty of hits already in the United States, their chart presence here in the UK up until now had been more sporadic.
That trend was now going to flip the other way, as their bearing here in Great Britain was about to outweigh any future successes in the States.
The single…
…had entered into the UK Chart on the 13th of January, and into the Top 30 at No.29, before climbing ten places to get inside the Top 20 the following week.
By its third week, the song had surpassed its best position it had achieved in America when it climbed to No.12, and two weeks ago it had attained its highest position of any of their hits so far over here, when it broke the Top 10 to land at No.6, only slipping a little last week, before dropping out of that hierarchy back to this week’s position.
From here,..
…it will spend one more week in the Top 20, before it falls away completely, collecting a total of 9 weeks, and leaving after the 16th of March.
