At No.10, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Free with “Heartbreaker”.

The final studio album,..

…from one of rock’s greatest bands came as the group was about to implode for good.

With bass player and lyric collaborator Andy Fraser already gone, and iconic guitarist Paul Kossoff teetering on the edge of his own self destruction, the band somehow managed to come back together, with the assistance from new bassist Tetsu Yamauchi and John Bundrick for one final blast.

The result was this outstanding achievement, considering the circumstances.

The album entered the U.K. Album Chart at No.16 on the 28th of January and, bolstered by the success of the single “Wishing Well”, rose to its peak position of No.9. A position it would hold on to for two weeks.

After this week’s Top Ten position, the album will slip back to mid chart before climbing back up to No.17, falling out of the chart completely after the 10th of March, but then coming back to take one final bow at the very edge of the chart from the 18th to the 24th of that month. Thus closing the end of an era.
