John Lennon
#9 Dream

At No.35, on “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart”, the week of my 3rd Birthday, is John Lennon with #9 Dream.
From one dreamer…
…(see the previous post at the bottom of this one) to a song manifested from an actual dream; and although John would later disregard it and flippantly throw it to one side when giving interviews, it actually seems deep enough to him to add as one of his personal favourites, especially with that significant number materialising again. This therefore leads me to think that John felt songs this personal were none of the outside world’s goddamn business.
Evocative in its nature, and (in my opinion) strongly personal enough to immediately put it all down before it evaporated in amongst the strong breezes going around in his waking head, this therefore must be up there with his most engaging compositions throughout his career, both as a solo artist and as the leader of a band. He undoubtedly, and most certainly, felt the need to pour enough attention into the structure to give it one of the most lavish textures in his whole career; and it certainly shows.
At this point in his life,..
…John is still navigating his internal psychological well-being, with the most patient, warm, and beautiful (both inside and out) May Pang by his side, while he dives deep into his most personal past torments and travels on his most effective journey of recovery; and which is leading him to a deeper and potent inner peace than he has ever felt in himself, ever.
In fact, the working title for this song would become the title of the album from which it now appears – “Walls and Bridges“.
Over the past year,..
…since he’d last appeared in the album chart during my previous birthday, he seems to be definitely travelling along his road to recovery, even though at times it appears precarious. He may have stumbled, he has most certainly tripped (in whichever way you wish to perceive), but somehow (most probably, and mainly, due to writing it all down, just like this song) he is still significantly putting one metaphysical foot in front of the other.
Just like the latest album this is selected from, this single is a snapshot of the torment that he is currently still navigating. With the rich, swirling and enticing A side, and the sharper, raw, edgier, turbulence and rage of the B side, with it all giving him an inner sense, to feel which obstacles he needs to either build up or knock down, and which connections he desires to detach or traverse over, and into, the future he wishes.
It’s all inward negotiation self-awareness; and through all the wild, weird, frightening and wonderful moments he’s currently experiencing, he seems to be somehow getting there.
The single…
…entered the chart a couple of weeks ago on the 2nd of February at No.49, and then broke into the Top 40 last week to land at No.36, before moving up just one notch this week.
From here…
…the single takes another forward jump and into the Top 30, where it will first sit at No.27, before traversing another 4 places higher to reach No.23; and where it reaches its peak during the first week of March.
Returning back to No.27, the following week, it will fade through that early spring month back to the edge of the Top 30, before reversing back out of the Top 40 and leaving the chart altogether after the 29th of that month, with a collective 8 weeks to take with it, as it dissipates away.
