Gilbert O’Sullivan
Back To Front

At No.46, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart”, the week of my 2nd Birthday, is Gilbert O’Sullivan with Back To Front.
Gilbert’s second long player,..
…which had featured strongly this time last year, makes a welcome appearance again this year after a successful period, which had placed him in so high in the music world, that he shared the same worldwide adulation, if not more so, as other similar British musicians of an equivalent calibre, such as Elton John.
This equally jaunty offering…
…as with his debut, but a little more smoothed and polished than that predecessor, reflecting the more comfortable and relaxed environment he could now afford himself (no pun intended), after such a string of successful singles, which had followed between that album and this one, to fill the gaps and the needs of his fans eager for more of the same. Achieving popularity in the United States, and with a successful run of domestic, European and U.S. concerts to promote this follow-up, to give his new-found fans an outing to witness him personally, and for which he then took them on a charming journey through his most successful collected works so far; all of this had kept this LP extremely relevant as the world had begun another circuit around the sun.
The album,..
…after I’d last visited its progress and witnessed it leave the chart the previous autumn after the 6th of October 1973, had had a couple of standalone visits (one further forward in that month and the other beginning at the end of it), before it returned with far more purpose from the 18th of November and settled comfortably in the mid-chart placings, helping to keep everything cozy and warm as winter set in.
From here,..
…the album will occupy the UK Album Chart for just one further week, to complete another solid consecutive run of 15 weeks and seeing out another winter, departing after the 2nd of March, having racked up its biggest sales yet and leaving with an impressive non-consecutive total of a year and 12 weeks altogether.
