The Moody Blues
Seventh Sojourn
At No.21, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is The Moody Blues with “Seventh Sojourn”.
This appropriately titled album,..
…unless you count the very first album by the original line-up featuring vocalists Denny Laine and Clint Warwick, would be their last for a while, before taking a break during the mid 1970’s.
With a theme for this album taking inspiration from Geoffery Chaucer’s magnum opus “The Canterbury Tales”, the decision for the feel of the music harked back to their earlier orchestral success, when the Moodies got their second lease of life back in the late 1960’s. Even bringing back the Mellotron and its predecessor, the Chamberlin
And as luck would have it, whether that luck was good or bad, when it came to releasing singles from this album, one of which was appearing in the equivelant Singles Chart this very week, they would be trounced in sales by their finally-becoming-a-classic single from 1967, “Nights In White Satin”, which was at last getting the recognition it had deserved.
The album had leapt into the U.K. Chart at No.5, its best position it would acheive, on the 26th of November the previous Autumn of 1972, and stay in the Top 10 for three weeks.
The majority of the rest of it’s residency through into this year, would be in the Top 20. Next week though will see it drop further, before falling out of the chart after the 24th of March.
It would sneak one more week into the Top 50, when it shows up at No.46 from the 29th of April to the 5th of May, which would take it’s final tally of weeks up to 18.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.
