Imagine

John Lennon 1971

At No.36, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is John Lennon with “Imagine”.

My first trip around the sun completed…

…and John Lennon’s arguably greatest solo album is still making it’s presence felt another year on.

Now to the casual reader, they may think that it would be down to the hit single of the title track. The reality was that the single “Imagine” hadn’t been released over in the U.K.

So if you wanted to hear it, you had to buy the album.

Since we last caught up with him, after the album had briefly dropped out of the chart the previous July, it would reappear for the end of the month for a couple of weeks from the 16th, positioning itself first at No.31, then No.41 before it was off again after the 29th.

It would soon come back again. Starting from the 6th of August, to see out the Summer, and most of the Autumn too, getting as high as the Top 20, before off it goes again after the 18th of November.

He must have put a few smiles on people faces, when they opened up their presents at Christmas as, due to a surge in sales, he re-entered once again from the 10th of December and stayed until the 30th.

Into 1973 we go, and the album jumps back in mid-chart for a couple of weeks from the 14th of January until it goes again after the 27th.

It would be back in from the 4th of February at No.24, and that’s where he passes my Birthday week, heading into Spring before he takes another absence after the 24th of March.

There will be even more chart action to come from this album, it will again revisit my birthday week in the future, and we’ll catch up with John again later on down my musical road.
