The Osmonds

At No.38, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is The Osmonds with “Live”.

The third live album, so far, in this chart,..

…and this time it’s the turn of The Osmonds.

Recorded live from their date with the crowds at the Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles, on the 4th of December 1971, the performance here, sporting the Elvis-era Jumpsuit look which they can actually pull off better than Elvis himself, pre-dates the “Crazy Horses” era, where the brothers began to breakout to write and record their own material, hence all but one track on the album are written by others.

This also captures the meteoric rise in popularity which brother Donny was experiencing during this period. Just listen to the crowd when he sings, or even just talks.

The album first appeared for one week only, when it poked it’s head through at No.43 on the 12th of November 1972.

It would gain more momentum when it appeared again from the 26th of the same month, landing at No.32 and staying around that area of the chart for the next five weeks.

A surge in sales, during the week between Christmas and New Year took the album up to it’s highest position, when it rose up to No.13 from the week beginning on New Years Eve 1972. After that, it would mainly drop to around the mid-twenties.

This week sees the album begin dropping to the lower end of the Top 50 until, eventually, it will fall out altogether after the 24th of March.

There will be a couple of sporadic returns, the first of them coming back for one week only, at No.47 from the 8th of April 1973. The last showing will be for 3 weeks, from the 22nd of the same month at No.42 until it climbs up to No.34 and bows out after the 12th of May.
