Cat Stevens
Tea For The Tillerman
At No.42, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Cat Stevens with “Tea For The Tillerman”.
Cat’s other entry which featured in last year’s album chart when I was born…
…turns up again in this chart for my first birthday.
Since we left this album last year, when he’d bowed out of the chart after the 20th of May 1972, the next entries would each only last a maximum of a couple of weeks, if that.
The first of these would occur just a few weeks after we left it, when it re-entered at No.44 from the 4th of June 1972.
After dropping to No.50 for the following week, it would leave again after the 17th of the same month.
Its next appearance would be for one week, when in came in at No.46 on the 30th of July and left after the 5th of August.
The next week long showing would occur at the close of the British summer when it appears at the same position of No.46 from the 27th of August and sees the month turn to September..
Another week long appearance begins on the 10th of September, when it lands at No.41, and the one after that, which lasted for 2 weeks, began on the 24th of that month and got one place higher to No.40, dropping to No.46 and leaving after the 7th of October.
Further into that month, and Tillerman stops for a 2 week stay at No.47 from the 22nd of October, and would leave after the 4th of November, and for the rest of the year too.
Back to one-week stays for the new year and the first of those would happen from the 14th of January at No.46. The next of these would be on the 28th of the same month at No.49.
And finally it turns up here.
This week would end up being this album’s final week in the U.K. chart.
When this album first entered the chart back in 1970, I didn’t even exist, but I’m here for the end, where it leaves in the week of my first birthday, acumulating a final tally of 31 weeks on the U.K. Album Chart.
I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this LP with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.
