Jack Jones

At No.48, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Jack Jones with “Bread Winners”.

Jack’s nod to the group Bread,..

…is coming to the end of its fifth out of six visits to the U.K. Album Chart this week.

The popular singer, born in Hollywood, Los Angeles, had been having quite some success with his new middle of the road style. A change of direction since his more bigger sound in the previous decade.

This album, the second tribute album of which will eventually form part of a loose trilogy honouring some of his respected singer songwriters (the first of the three had been Michel Legrand in 1971, the third will end up being another French songwriter, Charles Aznavour which will release next year), had first entered the U.K. Chart on the 28th of May 1972 landing at an impressive No.14.

By it’s 2nd week it had breached the Top 10 where it had climbed to No.8, and a week after that, it had climbed one more place to reach its highest position of No.7 on the 11th of June.

Jack would spend another couple of weeks in the Top 10, before easing off slightly to relax further down the chart, mainly hovering around the Top 20 or 30, sometimes getting up higher such as No.13 by the 20th of August.

The first consecutive run would eventually end after 18 warm weeks when the album dropped out of the chart after the last day of September.

As Autumn took hold…

…so Jack was back for this album’s 2nd run, entering on the 8th of October.

This time it would spend the majority of its time around the Top 40, but then gradually climb higher until, in its final week, shooting up to No.15, before suddenly dropping out altogether after the 25th of November.

It would reappear for a weeks stay at No.39 on the 3rd of December before coming back again from the 17th of the same month, when it would stay for 3 weeks in the 40s and see in the New Year of 1973 before departing for the 4th time after the 6th of January.

That brings us to the 5th, and current run which began on the 21st of January, when it re-entered at No.37 before climbing in its third week to as high as No.17 before falling back in the next couple of weeks to arrive here, at this position of No.48, before falling out of the chart for the penultimate time.

The last run will consist of 2 final weeks in the Top 40, which will start the following month, on the 4th of March when it enters at No.35.

It will then drop back two places to No.37 before finally departing for good after the 17th of that month, racking up a very toasty total of 36 weeks on chart.

I’ve created my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with (I hope) the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Side 1

Jack Jones – Bread Winners (Side 1 Label)
Jack Jones – Bread Winners (Side 1)

Side 2

Jack Jones – Bread Winners (Side 2 Label)
Jack Jones – Bread Winners (Side 2)

Many thanks goes to Dutch Up 3.0 Music for providing the chance to hear the tracks so that together we can experience both sides of this album release (although it’s very crackly so apologies for this), as it was intended, once again.
