Aram Khatchaturian

At No.50, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart”, the week of my 1st Birthday, is Khatchaturian and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with “Spartacus / Gayaneh“.

Exactly a year before,..

…this classical double whammy, by the Armenian maestro, was enjoying its chart presence in the Top 20, after which it would dip out of the chart after the 26th of February 1972; and that was where we left it’s journey. But for the album, the absence was only brief.

Since then,..

…it had come back for one week from the 5th of March 1972 at No.41, before disappearing again, and then appearing at the end of that month, for one week again, on the 26th; this time at No.34

It would then take most of that last year of 1972 off, before another appearance (I’m guessing, tying in with the airing of the series “The Onedin Line”), for four weeks this time, beginning on the 10th of December at No.48, before climbing two places to No.46 for another two weeks, and then a final climb of eight places to No.38, before it dropped away again after the 6th of January in this New Year of 1973.

Carrying on,..

… the album re-enters once again at No.40 on the 13th of January, climbs a further six places to No.34, before exiting once more, adding another two weeks to it’s tally.

The album doesn’t appear again until this week, where it just touches the No.50 position, and this will end up being it’s final week on the U.K. Chart so far.

All in all, after a completing a chart journey which had started over a year before, at the beginning of 1972, “Spartacus” will leave with a total of 15 weeks spent in the Top 50 overall.
