Paper Plane
At No.13, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Singles Chart” on my 1st Birthday, is Status Quo with “Paper Plane”.
We find Status Quo emerging from the wilderness with this single,..
…their first big hit since “Pictures of Matchstick Men” back in 1968.
A lot had changed in the years since then, with a change in some group members, a change in clothing style and, most importantly, a change in musical direction.
This was the beginning of the Status Quo the U.K. would come to embrace in the future.
“Paper Plane” first entered the U.K. Singles Chart…
…on the 7th of January at No.40 and climbed 16 places to No.24 the following week.
By it’s third week, it broke the Top 20 when it climbed to No.15 and by it’s fourth week, was knocking on the door of the Top 10 when it reached No.11.
As January turned to February, the single broke the Top 10 barrier when it hit it’s highest position of No.8 on the 4th of February before slipping back a couple of places to No.10 the week before this featured chart.
After this weeks showing at No.13, the single will drop heavier to No.26 and then No.34 the week after. The final remaining weeks would find it on the edge of the Top 50 until it would fly away altogether after the 24th of March, totaling 11 weeks on chart.
