T•Rex
Electric Warrior
At No.2, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is T•Rex with “Electric Warrior”.
T•Rex’s 2nd album…
…(since they’d shortened their name. Their 6th album if you count their previous albums under the “Tyrannosaurus Rex” moniker) finds the mighty Marc Bolan definitely in all his glam glory at this time.
The T•Rex juggernaut was still rolling along very nicely come February 1972 with their latest single “Telegram Sam” also at position No.2 in the U.K. Singles Chart this same week.
“Electric Warrior” had entered the U.K. Album Chart arena back in early October the previous year of 1971, straight in at No.2 with only Rod Stewart in its way, not that this warrior was going anywhere, anytime soon.
The album would bide its time and would finally strike the Top and take not only the Christmas 1971 gong but also the 1972 New Year one too, and once there, it would be hard to topple from its summit.
In fact it would take the combined talents of George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton etc, with the “Concert for Bangla Desh” album, to upset an otherwise faultless run of 7 weeks at the top, when it pushed this album down to No.2 for a week at the end of January.
By the week of the 20th of February, it must be a similar powerhouse of artist and album to displace him again… we shall soon see.
For now though, this album will go on to spend a grand total of 44 weeks in the U.K. Chart with way over half of those weeks (29 to be exact) in the Top 10.
The album will eventually bow out altogether at the beginning of August 1972.
I’ve endeavoured to create my own separate playlists for both Sides 1 and 2 of this album with the correct versions and the original track sequencing order for the U.K. release.

Many thanks goes to the T•Rex Official YouTube Channel (@T.Rexofficial) for providing the chance to hear the tracks so that together we can experience both sides of this album release, as it was intended, once again.
