At No.9, on the “The Top 50 U.K. Albums Chart” on the day I am born, is John Lennon with “Imagine”.
John’s latest album…
…was still enjoying a residency in the Top Ten this week in 1972.
The previous year, some 4 months before, back in the Autumn of 1971, on the 24th of October to be exact, the album had gone straight in at the Top of the UK Album Chart and stayed in that top position for a couple of weeks.
This week will see the album’s performance notch up an impressive 18th consecutive week in the Top 10. Unfortunately, this unbroken feat is about to end as, next week, the album slips back to the No.11 position for a solitary week, before re-entering into that exclusive club for one final week this year.
As Spring takes hold, so “Imagine” settles comfortably into the Top 20, only dropping further as Summer approaches, where it will briefly leave the Top 50 altogether in the middle of Summer 1972, after the first week in July, before coming back to see out the last couple of weeks of that month.
It will dip out for a week once again before re-entering for a far more solid stay, which will see it take up positions for another unbreakable run from the 6th of August, all the way through to the 18th of November.
As 1972 draws to a close, so the album will edge back into the Top 50 once again, initially taking the No.35 position on the 10th of December, before dropping back to No.50 for the last couple of weeks of the year.
More visits will arrive, and John will appear again around a week during one of my future Birthdays.
